Recently, there’s been a lot of talk online about bridesmaids, and even brides themselves, being harassed or groped during wedding pranks. I don’t know how much of it is true, but honestly, those incidents weren’t as serious as the wedding I once attended.
The groom was my cousin. We were quite close, so he asked me to be his groomsman. That’s why I witnessed firsthand the most absurd wedding I’ve ever attended. In the end, it somehow turned from a wedding into a funeral.
My sister-in-law and my cousin met in college. Since she wasn't from around here, she only had one bridesmaid accompany her, besides her own family. That bridesmaid was a very beautiful student named Tú Tú, who I heard was a junior to my sister-in-law and they were very close.
The first time I met Tú Tú, I was quite taken aback, even considering pursuing her. But it seemed the young student, finding herself in a place full of strangers, was a bit shy. After just a few words, her face turned completely red, which was incredibly adorable.
The day before the wedding, the four of us gathered in the living room to discuss how to handle the wedding pranks the next day. Tú Tú was very scared because I had secretly told her earlier that the pranks in our area were quite aggressive, and bridesmaids would definitely be groped. So that evening, she was a bit frightened and said she wanted to go home.
To say she wanted to go home at that point, my sister-in-law was naturally displeased. She insisted that while there might be a crowd during the pranks, nothing serious would actually happen, and if anyone dared to bully Tú Tú, she would be the first to object.
Only after much persuasion did Tú Tú agree with my sister-in-law. Now, thinking back to what she said that night, I really want to slap her. "She'll protect her," she said so easily? Honestly, if it hadn't been for her on the wedding day, things wouldn't have spiraled out of control to the point of being irreparable.
On the wedding day, Tú Tú put on a little makeup. I have to say, she was much more beautiful than my sister-in-law. Moreover, she looked so pure, like a white flower, with a unique aura. Standing next to my sister-in-law, an outsider might have thought Tú Tú was the one getting married.
I stared until my mouth went dry, and I don't know what the other guests were imagining. When the four of us went around to toast each table, several tables started getting rowdy, forcing Tú Tú to drink some alcohol. She took a sip of wine, and her face immediately flushed red; it was obvious she couldn't hold her liquor. I had to intervene, but she still ended up drinking quite a bit.
When the wedding ended, a crowd of people prepared for the wedding pranks. As the pranksters rushed to the bridal chamber, my sister-in-law immediately announced she was pregnant, asking everyone not to touch her.
The moment I heard that, I felt something was wrong. Saying that was like pushing Tú Tú into a fire. If they weren't going to prank the bride, wouldn't they only be able to prank the bridesmaid? Moreover, I knew perfectly well that my sister-in-law wasn't pregnant; she only said that because she didn't want to be made fun of or embarrassed.
Tú Tú had also had some alcohol, so her mind was muddled and she couldn't react in time. She and my cousin were immediately dragged by the crowd to another room, leaving my sister-in-law and me locked together in one room.
Watching Tú Tú being dragged away, I felt worried. I immediately asked my sister-in-law, "Sis, didn't you say you'd be the first to step in if anyone bothered Tú Tú? Why are you just sitting there watching her being dragged away like that?"
My sister-in-law glared at me: “Why would you believe those polite platitudes? If a wedding isn't a little lively, then my wedding will be no fun, won't it? Besides, do you think she's so pure or something? When she was in school, she changed boyfriends like she changed clothes. No need to worry about her being too delicate!”
Hearing my sister-in-law's words, I was stunned. I knew that just a few days prior, when I spoke with Tú Tú, she had said my sister-in-law was her best friend. I never expected her to utter such words now.
I felt a surge of anxious worry. I knew our customs: during the wedding night games, let alone the bridesmaids, sometimes the teasing went so far that it was common for the bride to be raped. So, I wanted to go out and see what was happening.
The moment I took a step, my sister-in-law held me back.
“During the wedding night games, the groomsman isn't allowed into the bridal chamber; it's bad luck.”
That was our custom: during the wedding night games, the bridesmaids and the groom would be in one room, and the bride and groomsmen in another. It was originally meant to be split up for liveliness, but my sister-in-law said she was pregnant, so everyone had gone to the room next door instead – probably about twenty people.
Just as I was hesitating whether to go out or not, my cousin managed to run out from the room next door. He looked utterly disheveled, his clothes completely stripped off, leaving only his underwear.
The moment my cousin ran out, a pained shriek echoed from inside the room.
“Damn it, these brats are really going too far! No, Tú Tú is still in there. I have to go pull her out. She's come all the way from afar; we can't let her be humiliated.”
He said, then tried to rush back in, but my sister-in-law held him back: “What's there to panic about? They're all your friends. How far could they possibly go? At most, she'll be touched a few times. We're getting married; we have to save face for our guests, don't we!”
My cousin still wanted to charge in, but her face soured.
“I knew it! When we were in school, you were always secretly watching Tú Tú. Do you like her or something?”
At this point, how could I not understand my sister-in-law's intentions? She brought Tú Tú here because she wanted to see Tú Tú teased. What a vile woman! Was my cousin blind to choose someone like her as his wife!
After my sister-in-law said that, my cousin no longer dared to run over. Just then, loud crying came from the room next door again. I was frantic; something must have truly happened!
I quickly ran towards the room. My sister-in-law still tried to pull me back, but knowing her true intentions, seeing her filled me with disgust. I shoved her away with all my strength, pushing her to the floor.
As I ran out, I no longer heard Tú Tú's crying from the room next door, which made me even more anxious. I pushed the door twice, but it wouldn't open. Looking around, luckily, there was a large hammer in the kitchen. I rushed over, grabbed the hammer, and hit the door hard.
Despite such a loud noise, there was still no movement from inside. When I finally smashed the door open, they looked startled and guilty. The ringleaders even pushed me, asking what I was doing, their expressions resentful.
After that, my cousin came running over to apologize. Only after I exhausted all my pleas did they finally leave. It was then that I saw the situation in the room: Tú Tú's clothes had been completely stripped off, her entire body covered in bruises. Seeing that everyone had left, Tú Tú slowly staggered to her feet, her eyes vacant, unable to stand steadily. I noticed a streak of fresh blood on her inner thigh, and a stream of white fluid flowing from above her thigh.
I still didn't understand what was going on, I yelled out in frustration, quickly took off my outer jacket and wrapped it around her. It was then that she seemed to come back to her senses, sobbing uncontrollably.
My cousin and sister-in-law apologized to everyone before returning to their room. My brother also fell silent upon seeing this. He never expected that the wedding night games would take Tú Tú's virginity. Those people were truly despicable!
I was still thinking about how to comfort Tú Tú, when my sister-in-law, looking displeased, said to Tú Tú: “Today is my wedding day, and you’re crying and making a scene like it’s a funeral! You can’t even handle a small matter. If I had known, I wouldn’t have invited you!”
I had already been suppressing my anger, and hearing her say that made me extremely uncomfortable. Without caring if she was family or not, I slapped her hard: “Damn it, are you blind? How can you still mock others at a time like this? I wonder if my brother was blind to marry you! I wouldn’t want a despicable person like you even if you were given to me for free!”
She cried and cursed back. Tú Tú, however, stopped crying and quietly returned to her room. I intended to follow and comfort her, but my cousin held me back, saying she needed to be alone at that moment.
The wedding ended on such an unhappy note. My cousin and I went to take care of the next matters.
While handling the tasks, my mind was in a turmoil. I never expected things to escalate to this point. As I worked, I kept thinking about how I would comfort Tú Tú when I returned. If it really came down to it, I would propose to her then. After all, I didn't care about virginity. Otherwise, if she was no longer a virgin, it would be difficult for her to marry later.
My mind wandered, thinking about taking responsibility for Tú Tú. I would definitely treat her well, and not despise her. By the time everything was settled, it was already six or seven in the evening, almost dinner time. My aunt went upstairs to call Tú Tú down for dinner, but as soon as she opened the room door, she was so startled that she screamed.
My cousin and I quickly ran upstairs. When we reached Tú Tú's room, my pupils involuntarily constricted from fright.
Tú Tú had committed suicide!
Wearing the clean, red bridesmaid dress, she sat silently on the sofa in the room, having used a pair of scissors wrapped in red cloth from the room to stab herself in the throat. Fresh blood flowed from her neck, and the floor was also covered in blood.
It was clear she had been dead for a long time; the blood that had flowed out had already turned black. I was terrified, my whole body froze, and my limbs trembled uncontrollably.
It wasn't the incident itself that scared me, nor was it the corpse.
It was Tú Tú's eyes, wide open even in death!
What kind of gaze was that? I couldn't find the words to describe it. Because it was so deeply shocking to my mind, even now, I still cannot forget that gaze.
I recognized an immense hatred in those eyes!
A death was a huge matter, especially one that occurred at my cousin's wedding. At that moment, everything descended into chaos. My sister-in-law, who had been scolding Tú Tú, was also stunned speechless by fright. She never expected things to come to this.
It was just that I was too shocked at the time, and didn't know that after Tú Tú's death, the people who had participated in the wedding night games not only failed to reflect on what they had done but went on to commit acts worse than beasts!
That was how everything was gradually pushed to an uncontrollable point.
