Chapter 1 The Most Outstanding Chosen One.
Donghai City International Airport.
“Faster!”
“Faster!”
Over a dozen men in black suits rushed straight out the door, each with a grave expression, as if facing a sworn enemy.
Passengers nearby quickly made way, wondering what big shot was making such a show.
Leading them was a man in a suit, his brows furrowed tightly. As if he had just realized something, he immediately turned and left.
A moment later, on the pedestrian walkway outside the airport.
Jiang Ning sat on a long bench, slowly exhaling cigarette smoke.
“The Old Master hopes you can return. He misses you very much.” The man in the suit, standing five paces behind him, spoke respectfully.
In front of others, this man was full of authority; no one dared to offend him.
But in front of this young man, he felt utterly inferior.
“Miss me?” Jiang Ning slightly turned his head, a sarcastic smile on his face. “Does he miss my power or my wealth?”
If anyone else had said these words, the man would probably have openly shown contempt, because everyone in the capital knew of the Jiang family’s immense wealth. How could they possibly covet someone else’s power and wealth?
But the young man before him was different.
He was the sole heir of the Jiang family! He was the number one God of War in the East, his strength formidable, his wealth boundless. This only made the man in the suit sigh in endless admiration!
“Fifteen years ago, from the moment he kicked me out of the Jiang family and took in that vixen, Jiang Ning died.”
Jiang Ning exhaled smoke. “The Jiang Ning of today has no connection whatsoever to that Jiang family in the capital.”
He stood up and left without hesitation.
“Don’t send anyone to look for me again. Otherwise, I’ll kill every single one of them!”
In an instant, a heavy killing intent enveloped the man in the suit!
It wasn’t until Jiang Ning’s figure disappeared from sight that the man in the suit slowly relaxed his tightly clenched fist.
He hadn’t realized his back was drenched in sweat.
In front of Jiang Ning, he felt extreme tension.
In the airport parking lot, a car was waiting.
Jiang Ning got into the car, immediately pulled out his phone, and dialed a number.
“Ah Fei, is everything arranged?”
A voice came through the earpiece.
“Send me the address.”
After speaking, Jiang Ning immediately hung up. In his hand, he held a crumpled candy wrapper, his thoughts drifting back to fifteen years ago.
When he was fifteen, he was kicked out of the Jiang family and ended up wandering the streets.
As hunger and cold tormented him, a simply dressed little girl gave Jiang Ning the only candy she had.
Afterward, he was taken away by a mysterious man.
The first time he reappeared, the whole world trembled!
Three years later, he was hailed as the number one “God of War” in the East. He was only eighteen at the time!
Now, twelve years had passed. The “God of War’s” prestige still shook the entire world, but Jiang Ning had chosen to retreat into seclusion.
He could never forget that little girl.
He couldn’t forget her clear, pure eyes.
He couldn’t forget that kind face.
Jiang Ning took a deep breath, then carefully, meticulously, put the candy wrapper away.
If any acquaintance were present, they would surely be astonished, their jaws dropping. “The mighty number one ‘God of War’ showing such tension?”
“I’m back.”
The car sped away.
At this moment.
Wanshun Grand Hotel, Donghai City!
It was quite a bustling and lively affair, one might say.
The renowned Lin family of Donghai City was seeking a virtuous son-in-law for their granddaughter, Lin Wuzhen, attracting no small amount of attention.
Lin Wuzhen sat in a hotel room, her delicate hands clenched into fists, her eyes red-rimmed, looking utterly wronged.
Meanwhile, her mother, Su Mai, stood nearby, her face flushed crimson with rage.
"Lin Wen, they have no good intentions! If you're still a man, go tell your father to refuse right now!"
She shrieked, "Are you just going to stand by and watch our daughter's happiness be destroyed?"
'Virtuous son-in-law,' my foot! What a joke!
Su Mai didn't believe they could possibly have such good intentions.
The Lin family had grown from a small workshop into a third-tier family in Donghai City over fifteen years. The family patriarch, Lin Xiao, was a classic example of a self-made man who started from nothing.
Lin Xiao had three sons: Lin Qiang, Lin Wu, and Lin Wen.
Lin Qiang managed the majority of the Lin family's enterprises, while Lin Wu expanded their market into other provinces. Lin Wen, however, had been paralyzed in an unexpected accident and could now only recuperate at home, enduring a fate of neglect.
This 'virtuous son-in-law' selection for his granddaughter was instigated by Lin Qiang and Lin Wu, who had pushed the old man to make the decision. They had even thumped their chests, guaranteeing they would find an outstanding man for Lin Wuzhen.
But what was the outcome?
The nominees were all insignificant nobodies; one was even ten years older than Lin Wuzhen and had a history of mental illness!
This wasn't a selection for Lin Wuzhen at all; it was clearly meant to ruin her.
Lin Wen's face flushed, and he was seething with anger inside, but he didn't dare to defy the old man.
He knew Old Man Lin Xiao's temperament; the patriarch always spoke with absolute authority, and no one could go against his will.
"Father is Wuzhen's grandfather; he wouldn't harm her."
After a long pause, Lin Wen, his face red, finally choked out a single sentence.
Su Mai was so furious she felt like fainting. Pointing at Lin Wen, she wailed:
"Why did I marry such a useless coward!"
She knew Lin Wen was a filial son; in the past, he had obeyed Lin Xiao's every word without question. After his crippling accident, he had become even more spineless, not daring to oppose Lin Xiao's will.
But no matter which man was chosen to be Lin Wuzhen's live-in husband, it would ruin her entire life!
Their entire family would become the laughingstock of Donghai City!
Su Mai cried and scolded Lin Wen in anguish, Lin Wuzhen silently shed tears, and Lin Wen could only forcefully grasp his numb legs, blaming himself for his uselessness.
"Mother, don't scold Father anymore."
Lin Wuzhen forced a smile, her beautiful face still streaked with two fresh lines of tears that hadn't yet dried.
"Perhaps Grandfather will choose a good man for me."
How could she not know? This was all the doing of her eldest and second uncles.
After graduating from university, she had joined the Lin family's conglomerate, and in a mere two years, had achieved outstanding accomplishments, overshadowing their own sons and daughters.
They worried she would seize all of the Lin family's assets, which was why they had instigated Grandfather, unable to wait any longer to hastily find her a live-in husband. That way, she would no longer be qualified to contend for the Lin family's inheritance.
She knew, and her parents knew too, but they had nothing to fight back with.
In the Lin family, no one could oppose Grandfather's decision; no one was allowed to.
Hearing the clock strike, Lin Wuzhen stood up.
"Let's go. Grandfather is waiting impatiently, and he'll scold us again."
Lin Wuzhen's entire body swayed as if she might collapse.
Lam Van was miserable, yet he didn't know what to do. He didn't dare to face his wife, to look into her eyes filled with resentment.
He knew well that even though living in the Lam family home meant constantly humbling oneself and living at the mercy of others, at least the entire family, from the eldest to the youngest, didn't have to worry about making a living or putting food on the table. If they were to be kicked out of the Lam family, what would they do then?
In the hotel's grand hall, the lights shone brightly, and all the guests had arrived.
Seated at the head was the Lam family patriarch, Lam Xiao, his face ruddy, a cane in his hand, and dressed in an exquisite traditional Hanfu.
“Congratulations, Lam Patriarch!”
“Congratulations, Lam Patriarch, on such an outstanding grandson-in-law!”
Guests successively stepped forward to congratulate Lam Xiao.
“Father, it’s time. Let’s make the announcement.”
Lam Qiang stood beside him, his sturdy build giving him a commanding presence.
He looked towards Lam Yuzhen, who was sitting not far away, and announced loudly: “The results for this son-in-law selection are in. The chosen one is the most outstanding young man!”
The most outstanding young man?
Hmph, he knew very well that for this son-in-law selection, they had simply chosen the worst possible candidate, one who even had a history of mental illness.
As long as Lam Yuzhen was married off, the Lam family's assets would no longer have anything to do with her.
Lam Xiao would absolutely not allow the Lam family's property to fall into the hands of outsiders.
Lam Xiao stood up. As he began to speak, all eyes turned to him. “Today, I officially announce the chosen husband of my granddaughter, Lam Yuzhen.”
